Have you ever considered helping your child find a better way to get
to school, such as walking or biking? Central Ohio Car Free Day on
Thursday, September 22 is a great day to try it.
In addition, central Ohio schools are challenged to turn parking spaces
into Car Free Spots.
How: Turn a school parking space into a fun Car Free Spot.
Task: Use your Principal’s parking space. Have your Principal get to
school using another mode of transportation beside their car. Take a
picture of your parking space and post it to our
Facebook Page (search for Central Ohio Car Free Day).
Who: Kids, Parents, & Volunteers
Reward: Most creative Car Free Spot will receive a FREE bike
rodeo during Walk to School Month from a local bike shop.
Get Involved in Walk to School Month in October
You can also plan ahead for the International Walk to School Month in
October when millions of children, parents, and community leaders around
the world promote safer and improved streets, healthier habits by
encouraging physical activity, and environment conservation by reducing
traffic congestion and pollution.
MORPC is promoting and coordinating such efforts around the region.
Participating agencies include schools, health departments, service
departments, police agencies, and parent associations, among others.
The goal is to bring communities together, to build partnerships among
different agencies, and to work towards a safer and more livable region.
