Car Free Spots

In conjunction with Central Ohio Car Free Day, be on the lookout for everyday parking spots that are transformed into something unique and creative to demonstrate what our community could look like with fewer cars on the road. The goal of this initiative is to create functional spaces out of parking spaces, called Car Free Spots.

See pictures from last year at the Facebook Page (search for Central Ohio Car Free Day) or watch this Animoto video of previous Car Free Spots.

Check out this map of the organizations that are hosting Car Free Spots on September 22.

Take a trek your lunch break between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. by foot, bike or bus to see the Car Free Spots firsthand.

Here are a few Car Free Spot pictures from previous years:

Columbus Public Health set up a stationary bike in their parking lot, powering various things like a wood cutter, and a CFL. This Car Free Spot encouraged people to get active.  Consider Biking demonstrated how many bicycles can fill a metered parking space in front of Paradise Garage on High Street in the Short North. This Car Free Spot showed their support and the need for bike parking.

OSU Gateway
A group of recent graduates from The Ohio State University turned a metered parking space on High Street near the South Campus Gateway into a functional park. This Car Free Spot demonstrated the need for more green space.
